Pictures of fire, please help

I have been trying to take picture of fire, but I cannot get the pictures clear enough. Here's 2 of the pictures I took. Perhaps someone could suggest the settings to use to get a better picture. I did use a tripod. Thank you.

Fire ISO100 f/7.1 1/800 sec

Fire2 ISO 100 f/9 1/1000 sec

Looks like the focus might be off a little. I think you will pretty much have to use manual focus, but due to the unpredictable nature of fire it could be hard to know where to focus... You could always stop down more to get more DOF.

They do look pretty cool though.

Not sure if a fast shutter speed or a slow one would be better. They would both work - you would just have different results.
