lol now that i look at it i see flip flops!! Holy **** i have got to go bury myself after this one..yeah the first is kinda soft = kit lens "wide" open

#1 seems like her chest is in focus and her face is soft. Try shooting on a higher aperature and meter everything on your subjects face.

I actually like #2 the most. I like it how you showed the height of the ceiling and show the scale of your subject. The distracting part about it though are the houses outside the window since they are every close to your subject but that's tough to not include out. I like the feeling that this pictures gives.

Ya first one is neat though a little soft. However I love the second one just the way it is. No crop needed for me. I like how its different. Keep up the great work.

It's actually not your kit lens it's your bad focus. Way to be optimistic though.
