i took this picture on a walk the other day. Do you think i should get rid of the bird or stay with it.

I might not have known that it was a bird if you had not mentioned it, personally I would remove.

I'd have to agree that upon first glance, I wouldn't have known it was a bird if nothing had been said. I'd take the bird out imho. Also with the way the cross is facing, I'd place it off center to the left for better compositional effect. But that's just me
