Please help me to choose a keeper (poll)

I voted for #3 for the pose and frame. I really don't care if she has the top or not, as the whole idea of staging a show in the crosswalk is worth the price of admission.

I do not understand this whole help me, "Choose a keeper," exercise because honestly, none of these is CLEARLY a "keeper"...it's an interesting street performer in 10 frames, none of which really, truly have anything redeeming about them. I looked at them all very carefully, a laborious task the way these were posted as thumbnails...frames 1 and 10 are marginally interesting, yet still flawed. None are interesting as thumbnails, none are interesting as enlarged images either.

Let's put it this way...when a guy feels compelled to ASK others to choose one shot out of 10 as being a "keeper"...there IS NOT a single keeper in the bunch. If these were mine, they would never, ever see the light of day. I would never show these to a single person. Showing images like these is a great way to really kill the mystique...these are contact sheet grade images...none would get the grease pencil...

Brutal? You've got to be kidding. A massive image dump, and asking people to pick ONE, single "keeper", in a POLL? Come on. He's a grown man, working in one of the lowest-percentage types of photography there is--street shooting. Ten frame, shot over a few minutes' time span (10:07 to 10:15) with one lens length. Brutal? I chose my words extremely carefully. Maybe you are mistaking frankness and honesty with the idea that 3 out of 10 street photos are "keepers".

Maybe your idea of a keeper is vastly different from mine? Maybe that's the real issue? To me a keeper in street photography is vastly more interesting than any of these are. TO me, the term "a keeper" means something much higher than B-list...it's got to be absolutely, high-level A-list material....it needs to be in the "super-selects". If in less than 10 minutes time span a photographer can make three keepers on a random, street walk-up scene where nobody's been stabbed, or shot, or is self-immolating, the shooter is probably the Lord himself.

Theres nothing wrong with honest critique but self satisfied hammer blow remarks are unnecessary.

Thank you Dan, but they're SOOC. They're caught in a very short span of time, so they're very similar, that's why I asked. I like all of them, but I want to print only one of them. Thank you for feedback Dan.

This is truly comical in that someone actually feels Darrel's comments are brutal. His comments appear to me as a true and honest appraisal of images posted in this forum for critique and opinions. And now Darrel is being brutal. Do you truly believe that? With all due respect sir, you have no idea what brutal means.

I recently created a huge row by doing this very same thing: stating my honest opinion about some images posted here for critique. I was under the impression that when pictures get posted the original poster is effectively saying 'look at my work, tell me what you think, like, don't like.....etc.' I was also under the impression that everyone here was a mature adult that knows how to deal with a less than complimentary comment about their work.

Well, apparently I am wrong on both counts. As illustrated here and by my recent row with another member over my honest opinion about his work that, clearly, he didn't care for.

So here is my suggestion. Let's decide if we all want to act like civilized mature adults and discuss the thing we all seem to really enjoy, photography.......OR.....maybe it would be better for all of us to act as many already do when someone posts their opinion about work posted that may not be spectacular. Maybe it would be better to cry foul, throw insults, stomp your feet and throw a tantrum.

Frankly I'm sick to death of the latter. But, unfortunately, it certainly exists here. If you cannot, or simply don't want to, deal with negative comments about your work then the solution is really simple: don't show it here. I've seen some quite talented shooters here that can and do offer very valuable advice to folks maybe just getting started in this hobby. What must those beginners think when they encounter the shyt storm?

This is completely ridiculous. Grow up. Get a sense of humor. Be humble, there is always someone better than you.

I don't think Darrel has been brutal. I just think he (and you) missed my question, which was just "tell me which one you prefer if you should choose". There wasn't any request for critique, any request for a portfolio review, any request of comment. From this to grabbing the chance to shoot all your ammo against the value of my photos...there's a big difference. But...you're free to do that, of course.
As I told I accept every C&C on this forum, as I always did. I'm really ok with them, since they interest me, but they don't influence me. The point was only that...the question was another.

I think #3 is best because it shows her in an interesting movement with the shadow echoing it, and is framed the best. I would probably crop the left side slightly to get rid of that edge of a car sneaking into the frame.

The ones with the dog could have been interesting but the timing didn't catch the dog and the person moving or standing in a way at the same moment that worked. I find it takes a good bit of watching til everything in your frame aligns in a way that makes for a good photograph. And trying to keep distractions (parts of cars and signposts) out of the frame or think about how to adjust the vantage point to put those things where they work in the composition.
