Would like to purchase a film camera that I can carry around in a pocket. Any suggestions?

Older compact film cameras are not very expensive. Check out Olympus XA and Rollie 35, two excellent examples of small, well made, unobtrusive 35 mm film cameras.

Should be literally dozes of them at your local Salvation Army or St. Vincent dePaul thrift store for <$5.00.

Olympus Stylus Epic (not the 'zoom' version, the one with the 35mm f/2.8 lens) One of my favorite cameras ever... not just out of p&s, but out of all my cameras. Sharp lens, perfect meter...Too bad I broke mine..

Hmm, I think the OP is looking for a film camera, as in negatives or slides.

Also, usually the $5 cameras at the thrift stores are crap for the most part... those things are a good way to get frustrated with your photos. It's worth it to spend more (still considerably less than digital) and get a good one.
