What's new

Poor member response and awful moderation.

Oh...

and Canon 7D > Nikon D7000

just to add fuel and all.....

Instead of a more basic camera like a Rebel what about buying used? I've done well at local camera swaps and purchasing online from businesses like KEH - I've found them to be very reputable and accurate on their ratings etc. If you buy from a reputable used seller you might be able to afford something that gives you more options than a base model camera. I'm not sure what your schooling will require but that price range seems high if you're just starting out.

(And I skipped ahead on this thread... haven't been on the board all that long but these type threads have already made me wonder about how things are handled on this site. I've gotten the impression myself that sometimes the moderation isn't adequate or the standards are such that people seem to be allowed to get carried away in going after an OP - and if an OP posts something in what may not be the most appropriate way, some guidance could be given in a more respectful way than I see on here at times.)

I have no point of reference for past issues... as for this one, I contributed to the heated posts plenty myself. I'm quick to engage and slow to cool down.

In all fairness, the moderators were the most respectful and sincere people to speak to me.. much more fair than I was being.

Honestly, I am VERY surprised that one of the moderators has not swooped in and moderated all of your posts that carry the "Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2" tags, and then listed the reason for moderating as "removing undesired phone spam". Seriously. I have seen that retentive behavior over and over and over here. Removing all such tags is a great way to deny the entire membership the knowledge that people making short posts,or very brief replies, are on mobile devices, and thus cannot easily make lengthy posts nor lengthy responses, nor can they actually SEE much detail in any posted images, etc.. Yeah...very surprised you have not been modded for that horrible offense.

Lol.. ok. I have a computer too.. but ok.

Thanks. Lol

The humor around here is not for everyone, but you cant deny we have some great teachers if you can get through the hazing process =)

Doesn't seem to be hazing, really. They were all correct, had I explained myself better from the start and had I not been quick to go on defense, the threads wouldn't have gone quite the way they did. I've posted several other things to the forum including a few photos .. the responses were honest but pleasant.

Glad you stuck around, welcome to the forums :)

J - you mentioned something about being a student - are you in high school? I didn't see the earlier thread but there were some comments made here that I don't think would necessarily be appropriate in a discussion between adults and a high school student. And there's no way to tell if that's the case or not, but it seems like if someone's relatively new to the board you can't make assumptions one way or the other. At least you acknowledged that you could have handled things better which might have been the case.

Hazing was mentioned, and I can't believe that would be considered to be acceptable behavior on a public forum (or anywhere for that matter). That seems to be along the lines of bullying, where people seem to gang up on an OP especially if they're new or inexperienced etc. I can't see any reason for that type thing to be allowed.

Well, I am one for being nice to one another, BUT everyone has an off button on their computer. Each of us has a responsibility for our own actions. The moderators can only do so much, and really they are not babysitters. If there are children on this forum then it should be a parental responsibility to monitor what is going on. Plus, this forum is FREE, so we can also just cancel our membership and get a full refund. :)

Wow. Just. Wow.
I finally get to go out and shoot something today, and I come back and find THIS.

I read every post...except for the ones I didn't.
And the only thing I really got out of it was a sudden craving for bacon. :lmao:

Oh, and OP: As far as your question about what camera to get for school--first thing you need to do is quit listening to these yahoos who are trying to sell you Canons. :lmao:
Just kidding--but seriously, Nikon D7000, FTW.

Good advice. But once you graduate school, upgrade to a Canon.

And then once you become an expert and a professional upgrade back to Nikon.
