Popping the rewind shaft back into a Canon A-1

Howdy there, folks. I stumble upon my grandfather's old A-1 and found the rewind knob missing and something rattling around in there. I managed to pop it open and found the rewind shaft loose inside. Anybody know how I would pop that back in? Also, any help in putting a new knob on top would me much appreciated (already got one off of ebay).

Nice camera! You could try Rick Oleson's site or the KY Photo camera repair site. I have a pair of camera repair books by Tomosy that I think are unfortunately out of print; haven't tried the sort of repair you described.

Tbh just buy a new body rather than repair- they are probably cheap now.

The (later, and much more automatic) Canon T-70 sells for £15-£40 including (FD) lens, bag etc on EBay, so an A1 is probably much less, if you were wanting one. The FD kit is the stuff to go for though (While you can get a very recent film EOS for £15-£25, the FD gear uses much cheaper lenses as they dont fit DSLRs)
