portfolio?

I am fairly new to photography and I wanted to start a portfolio.
Can anyone help me find one online or tell me what to look for?
It will need to be a pretty good one because I am applying at Emily Carr next year so ANY information on size, type, brand or whateeeeever would be a HUGE help! thanks so much

Mpix sells them, but not nearly as nice as the one gmarquez mentions.

Any recommendations on how many pieces to include in a portfolio?

Im not sure how much the binder is going to matter...i would think that the content would be the most important part.

that being said, i have 2 that i picked up from Blick Art Supplies for about 15 bucks each. one for 8x10 and one for 11x14. I would say it was just about the cheapest option i could find in there that didnt look like crap and i wouldnt be ashamed to show it to anyone. If anyone thought my art was less because i cant afford an expensive binder they are either snobs who have had everything taken care of them for their entire lives or they paid more attention to my binder then the pictures it contained.

lastly, and someone else who knows more may want to trump me, but i dont think there is any set number of pictures to include. I certainly wouldnt include 100 pictures... but i wouldnt also have 5. you want to include your very very best. If your wondering "does this one belong" then it doesnt. out of my body of work of around 10,000 pictures, i would include probably 15.

just thought of this...
its sorta like that calvin and hobs cartoon...when calvin thinks he is gonna get an A because he submits his report in one of those clear plastic binders thats all fancy...and ends up gettting a D- because there was no content....

Looking nice isn't necessary, but if the price is right, it's a plus....and for something that's 25x36 for $26.99, that's not too shabby.

It depends...if I was showing my stuff to my friends, then F' them if they are too concerned about my binder. But if it's for commercial work, I wouldn't discriminated against snobs and clueless people...I would take either's money just fine. :afro:

The content is most important, but the presentation is also important. It doesn't have to be expensive, but it does have to look nice.

But haven't read it yet :er:

I have tons more that I keep getting for birthdays and christmas and they pile up so fast that I can't read them quick enough. haha

Typically you would mount your photo to mount board, and you could also window mat it. It's nice to leave a generous space around the photo. If you print 8x10s, buy an 11x14 portfolio book and use 11x14 mount board.
