Portraits of Models

Hello All,

My name is Chris, I am from South Jersey and I am new to the board and ever since a year or two ago new to photography as well. I am self taught but plan on taking courses to further my skills in Portrait photography. To start things off I would like to share some of my recent work with models I have photographed at a Motorama event I attended.

It looks more like pictures taken of hot girls at moterama. Welcome to the forum though!!

try turning the camera 90 degrees into portrait orientation.

Welcome to the forum. Try putting your camera in portrait orientation, or vertical rather than horizontal for portraits. You might be pleasantly surprised.

the background is too dark. I want more ambient light. And judging from the dof, its already opened wide.

I bet number 3 is going to be real proud of that machine gun tattoo when she's in the stands at her kids soccer games in a tank top in the middle of summer.

Thank you all for the helpful hints. I do shoot vertically depending on the background and how much space I have to work with. The shots of the two girls I took horizontally because I wanted to include the website and clothing company in the shot since they were nice enough to let me photography their models. As for the gun tattoo on her arm.....its not real. Its actually one of the company's logo's with their web address underneath.

Now for the lighting issue. The entire event was held indoors so natural light was not available. I was shooting at f2.8 with an ISO of 400. I was also using a Nikon SB-600 flash.

The reason for the ladies skin being so radiant was because I used the skin softening tool during my post processing with Lightroom 3.
