Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I know how to post jpegs, but I wanted to post a RAW image to see what others could do to it. I can't figure out how to do that though. Anybody?

I can't seem to get RAW images to upload to Photobucket or to Flickr.

Thanks.

I think you have to use a file share site, not a photo gallery site

RAW cannot be posted for web viewing as there isn't any web application to my knowledge that can open a RAW file. If you want someone to have access to the RAW file, you will need to host it on a fileshare, not a photo host. There are some free fileshares available but I've never used them so I don't have any recommendations.

Of course, you'll want to post the jpg so people can decide whether or not they want to download the RAW to give their take on it.

Wow that'll be quite a huge file size for a forum post huh? FTP to folks may be an option too.

Well, in that case, I might say that jpg is not an image, it's a file as well. People make images out of .txt "ascii art". An image can be made out of any kind of file if there is software that will interpret the file as such. So I would argue that .CR2 is every bit as much an image file as .tiff, .tga, or .jpg. You just have to have the appropriate program to view the image.

The difference is, a jpeg format file is intended to be viewed as an image.

Stored on your computer a JPEG looks like this:

0100110111010100111100111001011101001110101000010101010011101010010

Stored on your computer a RAW file looks like this:

And if you want to put a RAW file on a hosting site so people can download it that's easy:

Yes, of course a RAW file has to be converted to RGB to be displayed or printed. The OP just wants to get a RAW file uploaded somewhere so others can download it. That's possible. And it'll still look like this: 10110101110001111101010101010101

I will do a quick convert to JPEG and post that here. I don't think it's much of a photo--I just grabbed my camera and ran when I had the critter on my back porch. It's really just a snapshot but I wonder if there is any use in monkeying with the RAW image and seeing when I can create.

Thanks. Back shortly.

Here it is. Not much to look at, but I wonder if there is anything that could save this image in LR? I don't find it particularly appealing but who knows what others might think.

Serious contrast boost and Levels adjustment. Then I darkened the background to bring out the bug. I used Photoshop and I'm not sure you could do as much in LR. Maybe an LR user will take a run at it for you.

Thanks, Joe, I like the revision. It's a bit darker than I would have gone but I like how it pops now.

the edit looks a bit unrealistic. It looks like it's out of some 3d movie to me.
