Practising Portraits

Just a good day with friends. Made them pose for me. Kept few basic things in mind. .. like eyes... Face and hand position. .foreground etc.
Please give me feedback and areas of improvement for next time

Just some of the quick things that I see.

#1 - I would like to see the hair brushed out of her face where you could see the other eye and the flowers in the foreground are bright and a bit distracting.

#2 - The flower is right in her right eye kills this picture. If you moved a little camera right, this may have been a lot better.

#3 - Nicely done but your subject is centered in the frame, moving her to the 1/3 on the camera right to me would be better.

#4 - Not bad but again the flowers are bright and draw the eye away from her.

#5 - I like this one except for 2 things. The fingers at the bottom without a hand and I would like to see the hair pulled back to show the eye.

#6 - You cut off her left hand.

Most of the issues I see are with composition. You did a pretty good job, just needs some tweaking. And you had a very lovely model to photograph.

Thank you ....agreed I went over board with the flower foreground. 5 n 6 agree regarding the hand. Will work on composition better. . Thank you.

I think #3 is the best, the subject is extremely beautiful but:

She is leaning too much
There is a lot of really bright, eye-attracting space that isn't her
Her color is a bit cool and flat.

I think 4 x 6 isn't as good for people as 4 x 5

Yes she is beautiful and a good sport. .Was very patient with my experiments.... We are going to do one more shoot soon. . I'll correct the above and read on composition

Ron pretty much nailed every shot's most-notable area of weakness. The way I look at it is six near-misses...a little bit here, or a little bit there, and all six of these would have been solid. My main suggestion might be to shoot a bit more loosely...leave more space around her, so as not to accidentally crop off limbs or to leave too little space at the top or sides or bottom of the frame, and then later, crop to get the best image. With many smaller d-slr bodies, it can be tough to literally "see" the edges of the frame while you're looking mostly at the subject's expression, and one ends up with a lot of accidental "chops", simply due to the tunnel-vision type viewfinders on cameras like the D3xxx and 5xxx series Nikons (just as examples). Or, even with a good viewfinder, often times there can be a tendency to focusing in on the face, and not paying attention to the outlying areas of the frame.

What is immensely valuable here is that you have a model who does not flinch away from the camera.
She looks at it in a remarkably calm and friendly way.
What I don't like about the car shots is that they place her in a particular and modern setting that takes away from her natural beauty.
You are very lucky to have a model like this.
