Prairie Dogs

Just before entering The Badlands in South Dakota is a prairie dog village outside of a general store. Free to walk around and photograph them. You can buy food and feed them. They even have the burrows in the parking lot! It is a lot of fun for adults and children alike. They sometimes come up and nip your shoe.

These are well fed! We had some just outside the chow hall in Oklahoma at Tinker Air Force Base when I was there around '82.

They look fat, and I would imagine that some of them are quite sassy. A prairie dog that would nip at your shoe would be my definition of sassy.
