Presenting...Spike

This was one of the regulars that would cruise around the place we were staying in Corozal, Belize.
Spike, as we named him, was close to five feet long including his tail. A true monster that I named Godzilla (but got no shots of) was spotted eating the flowers from a bougainvillea across the canal.

People that haven't seen them will have a hard time believing just how fast they can be when they want to.

The locals had an interesting name for them...bamboo chickens.

I never gave them a reason to run from me on purpose. But you couldn't help but startle one at some point. The smaller ones would run like the wind but the only big one I scared jumped into the canal.
