Your issues with your camera have me concerned. I have the D90 and have never had an issue with any error.

What I am finding and reading is coming back to a couple different things. Aperture not going to max and giving an issue in the lens, pins in the lens not fully extending out, giving and error or the screws on the mounting ring being slightly loose.

Those are the comments I see coming back for this issue. Not sure how much of that you are seeing. I'd even go so far as to mic the pins with a dial caliper to see if they are returning out completely.

Well, I don't see how it could be the pins not coming out. The pins will only "come out" once when seated and they shouldn't move anymore after that point. My lens works fine when it is first mounted....it's after about 50-60 shots that it will stop autofocusing. If this was a problem with the pins not fully extending, then I shouldn't get autofocus in the first place.

I have cleaned the contacts with alcohol and a qtip. I've shot a few shots with it and the problem hasn't come back yet....only time will tell if it returns.

Oh, and I don't get an error....that's what's funny. The camera's top LCD gives the same "code" that it always does when it's attaining focus (R09 or something). Even the viewfinder lights up as if it's autofocusing....but it obviously doesn't.

Anyway, we'll see if the problem comes back after cleaning the contacts...I'm hoping it's something as simple as dirty/oily contacts on the lens/camera.

Just comments that I found in a google search on this topic. 3 for pins not fully out, 1 for aperture not fully open and 1 for loose screws on the mounting ring.
