problem with FORMAT help :/

problem problem with my memory
i will lost my picture :/
the memory asking me for formating the card
am having a d200 nikon
i know that i shall press the two button (format) with the red color
then what ??
it was flashing with FOR
now its only showing a FOR in the number of picture place
what shall i do shall i wat or close ??? or what
when i did the format process , the camera was ON
shall i close it ??

The two button combo needs to be pressed again when "for" is blinking.
