The iso noise is so incredibly bad it makes your picture look horrible. It's not me being overly keen like you mentioned. It's the first thing I noticed.

Please read this:

I removed the background in Photoshop and the picture looks much better. Even better in black and white, like 10 X (times) better. You could even add some visible light paths and I would buy it.

Not iso noise, compression software artifacts Good job I don't need to sell this small image and have the original taken on a Ids Mk iii. If I was going to sell it I would work on the raw file - for here - it is just for fun.

I think the upload software does some compression, not evident on my otehr copies I have.

I had to turn up my screen brightness to even see the compression artifacts. At normal brightness they're not even there. Even with them, I like the shot. It looks good to me for the purpose it's for.

I have a 1080p high dpi monitor (Not HDR monitor) I do all my Photoshop on. I thought about it and went to this page with my phone. Turned up to 4k and I saw no pixelation (HDR screen). I did what Capnball said and turned up brightness and then I saw it the terrible pixelation. The attached image is how I see it on my monitor.

Composition / cropping was perfect for this image.

I also like the processing. Getting black hair to show up on a black background is an essential photographic skill that you seem to nail.

When it comes to faces everyone has a different take. Some prefer the doll / flawless skin, which I detest, some others like the "Natural Look" blotches and all. The trick is to be consistent and build your own take that can be repeated on several pics. This is why some photographers get a lot of work reproducing a specific look.

Peter Coulson is awesome at reproducing his style and gets a lot of money to reproduce it. If you haven't looked up his Youtube channel you should spend a bit of time on it. Peter Coulson

EDIT: I forgot to add that this image would look great in a low contrast BW image.
