Something about that really sharp line separating the statue from the black background is throwing me off... Its too clean. I cant tell if its a mask or if that's just how it looked SOOC.


Other than that I really enjoy this image.

It's light reflection from the flash. I couldn't really do anything for that. If you crop 100% the image, you'll see it's not continuos. It's only on the highlights of reflection. I apreciate your feedback and happy you like the picture.

Oh okay, Its not a big deal. It just stuck out to me because of all the work i do with composites in Photoshop. In fact that sort of sharpness can be aesthetically pleasing in some cases.

I think the harsh lighting and the shadow on the shoulder help this image. They create a dramatic look that seems consistent with the damage to the statue and the "pose." The tonal range is very good. I'd be tempted to crop on the left to make it a tight crop all around, but either way a very nice image.

The dark behind the statue is real, because it was 2 hours after sunset. But I darkened the blacks of the background in order to minimize noise (it's a 6400 iso image). Anyway I didn't get close to the statue with the dark brush. The statue has been processed first in LR, then Silver FX pro 2, then still lightroom.

About cropping: I tried a lot of crop. But if I left crop (always keeping the ratio), I end in getting too close to the neck and the shadow. So I preferred to leave more black on the left.

No argument about the crop, works either way, but why is keeping the ratio the same important?

Both because I love to print photographs (3:2 avoid me cutting the paper) and because I like the dynamic sense it gives.

I think the crop is very well done. That's a good amount of black space to have.

I never crop out of aspect. I know exactly what you mean Ben.

I also wanted a balance between the black and the face because there's a sort of diagonal that drove me crazy when cropping. I even think there's few black.

Not sure if you mean the diagonal that's there now but I think it meets with the shoulder well which is a nice place for your eye to stop at. Just before it leaves the frame.

I think it works nicely along with the first image but I don't think it is strong as a stand alone image.
