Though I love Death Note, the name doesn't come from there.
Kira was the first dog I ever met when I was 3 y.o. And I always said when I would have brought home my puppy, if female would be named Kira.
During years I also read different meanings and ethimologies of the name. i.e.: In celtic means "Dark Lady".
