Protective filter?

At a large 6'2" I am very much cut off. Basically you'll get above their knees standing up, however kneeling or anything should allow you to get a full shot.

hmm, is it just me, or is it odd that the OP is saying, he can't afford to spend 20 bucks on a filter just to break by testing it with his air soft gun, and yet he wants to take his 400 dollar camera plus 100ish dollar lens with him?

Thanks for the tests, I would only take it if I had a protective layer.

And sounds good, if I get some sort of protective shield made up I will be taking it.
