Actually reading the original paper or even the abstract might be too much trouble when you are in pursuit of a snarky-comment opportunity, but it was done by in the psych department of a Canadian University.

An Internet Troll tends to be anyone who does not agree with the original poster.

Makes sense. I wonder if there's any correlation between being a troll online and having bullying/trollish/narcissistic tendencies offline.

BTW: I thought the term "troll" referred to someone who holds a position contrary to the predominant position of the majority on any particular forum website.

IOW: on a political forum I used to haunt, most of the regulars were drinking the R Kool-Aide. Therefore; any poster who seemed to favor the D's was considered a troll.

I think the definition of 'troll' has been muddied because of its overuse. I've seen plenty of people who found themselves being challenged and didn't like it, and so called the challenger a 'troll' to try to discredit him or her in an argument, even though there was no real trolling going on.

Never thought of that particular term but I like 'trawling'; if you look back at my last few posts, particularly with this crappy cold weather hampering my getting outside, I have tried particularly to post topics that will entice involvement and discussion. (It makes me feel smart and wanted.)(Although that is a false feeling - probably.)

This is a step above 'what are you listening to right now' and two steps above 'OK, show us your boobies, not you guys.'
