Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I'm looking to buy a camera with wide angle and zoom lenses for under $1,000
In your opinion what is the best camera available that's within my budget?

thanks
Gary

Hello Gary and welcome, good luck with your search...........

So decent autofocus is a requirement.

If you'd consider pre-owned you will get more value for your money.

This setup covers the full practical focal range and may be one of the best deals out there right now. Its well under your budget leaving some extra for a nice prime like this one and a tripod, case, memory card and cup of coffee.

NO
The 70-300 in the kit does NOT have VR. That would be bad on a long lens.
This is the VR model of that lens.

Get the D3400 + 18-55 as a kit, then the 70-300 VR separate.

Or bump up to the D5600 and a kit like the D5600 + 18-140. Which will take you from 18mm wide to 140mm med tele, with one lens.

However, depending on the sport and where you are sitting, the 140 may not be long enough. I use the 18-140 for soccer, on the field. But it would not be long enough for use from the bleachers, where you would want more reach, like a 70-300 VR.

Or the D5600 + 18-55 kit + 70-300 VR.
The 18-55 is a lighter smaller lens, than the 18-140, so easier for a daily carry lens.

There is a 55-200 lens, but I would get the 70-300 instead.

I agree that the Nikon D3400 is an excellent, yet economical d-slr body. The 70-300 AF-P with VR is _the_ tele-zoom to get. I kind of agree too that the 18-140mm zoom would be the better all-around "one-lens solution", instead of the an 18-55mm zoom...
