Question about telephoto zooms versus equivelant to times zoom

Wow that is a lot of info to process so far. I got home earlier and now and the owner of a NIkon D60 with an 18-55mm VR lens.

Wow, gone from looking at a camera to having it in your hands in less than 12 hours...awesome.
