ok, this may be a dumn question but I have to ask since I don't know any of the rules of photography... What is the Rule of thirds ?

If you divide the frame into thirds horizontally and vertically, then generally the strongest compositions occur along these lines, and the intersections are even stronger. There are some really great threads around here also, fi you do some digging around

think tic tac toe... put your subject where the lines intersect.
