Quick question

So I was at a wedding last night working the photobooth. I saw the two photographers which weren't from my company shooting nikons. They had little 3inch by 1inch stickers on camera lens and flashes? I was confused if it was possibly all rented gear? Just curiosity

I'm not quite sure if we can answer that - I mean the only way to get that answer would have been to ask those pros shooting wouldn't it? They could be rental stickers - ad stickers - company stickers - just really cool we like these stickers. It could even be internal company rental stickers (ergo a company with many photographers having stickers on their products to identify each item by a code or something so that they know which lens is which in their inventory)

As for rental companies outside of a companies internal structure then sure professionals rent stuff - they rent it all the time and why not? Sometimes you need specific gear for a shoot, but the costs of purchasing that gear outright is too great for the few times that you might need it - thus you have the rental services which can provide the gear at a fraction of the cost.

The other option is to buy new, use and then sell items on as used; sometimes you can command a better price this way than going through a rental company (own brand high end optics often devalue little - esp if they are only lightly used). Of course this adds complexity to the setup and you might not get the sale price you expect - or you might find that landing a sale takes longer and requires more input -- whereas rental companies are quicker and easier to deal with.

Over read thank you. I more or less was asking if rental companies sticker their lens/flashes. I know it was a small company located from the Morgantown wv area.

Your window of opportunity has closed. As a Nikon shooter, I wouldn't have punched you in the face for asking the question, but then again...... I like to get along.

I've rented gear from LensRentals a few times. No stickers, just great gear.
