Got a Quince in the backyard and today the buds have started to open. Lovely colored flowers.

They're basically an apple and are often called Quince Apples. Think very sour and very hard apples with an unfortunate touch of alum. So not too good for picking and eating straight from the tree. The magic of quince comes when you cook them or turn them into jelly.

No pies but I do make apple jelly (and plum and peach and gooseberry). Next time you're in the area I have a jar for you.
