Raise the Alarm

An old Alarm bell. This is one of my first attempts at a black and white conversion, I was going for contrasty. How do you think it turned out? How is the composition?

Not bad at all! Was the bell white, or an off-tone?

The bell was a a light greyish, it was painted over rusty cast iron.

I do like how this seems to pop a bit more, what kind of adjustment did you make to achieve this?

I just brought up the overall brightness, then brought up the shadows about half as much, leaving the highlights alone. Then sharpen to taste. I wish I could say I knew what I was doing, but I just de-saturate then adjust to what looks right to me.

Thanks! Shot with my smc-takumar 55mm f/1.8.

ISO at 400, shutter 1/200 seconds and aperture I believe was f/5.6, my dslr obviously didn't store that information.

This rendition seems crispier and really more 3D.

Not with old, manual lens. But this glass is still very, very valid.
