Why don't you put it back on your tripod after you take your camera off? That's what I do...Never have managed to lose one.

Because I am the most disorganized moron in teh world.

You should have seen me shooting 4x5. 2/3 of the time I was looking for my dark slide I had just removed 20 seconds ago. This is why I'm not pro. Skill, experience, desire aside. I'm a bozo.

oh. and I found it just now. six effin' inches from my TRIPOD under my chair; immediately after I started packing my stuff up.

argh. tonight sucks.

I feel your pain. I finally gave up and just keep it on the camera all the time. It was a little awkward at first, but I've gotten used to it. Now the tripod mount ring for my 70-200? I think I last saw it in the car.

I would do that, but my Black Rapid strap screws into the tripod hole for the camera...so, now, before I break down my tripod, I just put the plate back on it. Seems to work out well.

I have an extra one because I'm panicked that I'll lose mine... but I haven't lost it yet. YET. I keep mine on the tripod as well.

) - get yourself a Lenscoat cover for your 70-200mm. Not only will it make the lens all warm and easy to hold even in colder weather, but it also means that once the cover is on you have no choice but to keep the tripod ring on the lens at all times.

To make matters worse last night, my brolly wouldn't aline with the hole in my lights that you put the metal pole. The hole in the reflector was just slightly off and I figured that it bent a little since they are cheap. SO I bent it every which way trying to figure out the problem, then I started bending the pole on the brolly thinking it must have bent. (it's all super cheap stuff, so no real worries). No luck. I bent and spun and twisted and cursed for like 2 hours (30 minutes) trying to figure it out.

Then I put the reflector back on, and the hole was like 15° counter clockwise from where it should have been! I was about to just give up entirely, sell all my gear and take up penuckle or bridge or some other senior citizen pastime when I realized that the reflector came a bit loose from the collar, and could be spun around with enough force applied.

Gotta Love China. I just torqued it back into position.

Nope, the name is the same, you just haven't paid attention for two years. :lol:

As far as the 70-200, I don't shoot with it enough to really worry about it. I don't shoot any sports or wild life so the only time it's really useful is at the zoo. It's a lot of money for me to have tied up in something I don't use much so I'm giving a lot of thought to selling it.

Ahh two years not paying attention I can live with

Also try some landscapes with the lens - I'm serious! It makes a great little lens that can pick out select details within the landscape as opposed to just capturing a massive vista of a scene.

All of my recent landscapes were done on a 200mm Tak or 5" Ilex on an APS-C sensor. I also was surprised how useful this length is. It flattens the field so extremely that it starts taking on an illustrated look.

Either leave it on the box or buy a spare or three..... I'm exactly like the OP - and easily lose a lot of stuff.... It's also the reason I bought a Carry Speed rather than a Black Rapid - so I can keep the tripod plate on the camera... that and it was cheap.
