Well, I took a bunch of pics about 2 weeks ago at a parade in NEF...got home and couldn't open them in PScs2..I was not happy...just had my husband download Camera Raw plug in...and OHMAGAWD...are you serious?
I love this...so much easier to navigate and make changes to the exposure then regular photoshop...Jesus...I wish Ive been shooting in RAW all along. Damn

I think I can see the light above your head coming on from here.

DSLR owners who do not shoot RAW format are doing themselves a great disservice. There really is no downside now that high GB memory cards are so cheap.

I got a new one of those too :D 4gb...but I was using a 2, now I will just carry all my cards (I have a collection growing) I got the 4GB card for 8 bucks (black friday deal...came with 25 free 4x6's as well) ...
So...really, is it really this simple...just a few sliders to get all the exposure where you want it?
I am interested to know what a "normal" histogram should look like so I"m going to go and look it up, I assume I should be using the histogram in Raw to tell me how the picture should look. Also, the eye dropper that you use to pick your white balance...should I do that or just start from where I took the picture?
thnx.

Here is 3 examples of stuff I've tried with Raw...I'm still learning it so...it is what it is...but I was real happy with it!
This is the one where I was watching the histogram...if anyone has any ideas on what to set them to, to change it, I'll try it :)
also...how do I save them after I tweak them in RAW? the originals are no longer there, in their place is the one I worked over :(

Welcome aboard, you're saved. ;)

You tell people about the benefits of RAW and they give you some ridiculous argument about it being to complicated or unnecessary or some other lame excuse.

It's SIMPLE, it's EASY, and it's EFFECTIVE.

Anybody else pick up the Western Digital 2TB external drive at Target on Black Friday?!?!

I just have mixed feelings about my 16.1 MP sensor when shooting raw files. I love it when going in to retouch but I can only shoot 50 frames on a 2gb SD card. So luckily I found some 8gb lexar cards for $17!

But Adobe RAW is a great simple tool!

That's why I like Nikon Capture NX. When you make adjustments to a raw file, it just adds those steps to the original file. You can always go back to the original.

so if I download Nikon Capture NX, is it the same as PS Raw? will it take it's place? because apparently I never had the software that came with the camera...but I have it now right here next to me on a disk...I guess I should have a look.
when I got the camera my husband downloaded the updates from Nikon's site...but it didnt' come with anything except the camera, a card and a strap.

I use Capture NX2 and LOVE it. I do have PS, but there are only a few things that I use it for that I can't do in NX2. I love the ease of uploading my NEF shots and they open right up in NX2 and it's user friendly!

I will have the stud look into that...thanks for telling me about it, photoshop cs2 is a never ending learning process...just when I think I got it...i read yet another book and then there is MORE...good lord. I'm a simple person, I like simple things...and I dont mean I'm like Forrest either...lol:mrgreen:

Good lord...I love Raw so much...I can't stop myself...lmao
