What's new

Raw/NEF

It's called selective coloring and it depends on what editing program you are using. I use NX2, so I just convert to B&W and there is a minus brush I use to reveal the color. There's also color points you can select with NX2, but it's hard for me to explain if you aren't already using it.

You know what girl? I really appreciate your help! I'm gonna see if I can figure out how to do it in pscs2 using what you do in NX2, i have 3 stinking books on it and i can't find how to do that, I asked my husband to find me NX2, he usually is able to get the stuff from work, so hopefully he can get me that.

...how do I save them after I tweak them in RAW? the originals are no longer there, in their place is the one I worked over :(
You can't 'save' a Raw.

No changes were made to the pixels in your original. Camera Raw is a parametric editor that adds an XMP data file to the Raw data file.

The XMP data file has the instruction that tell the edit rendering engine (Camera Raw) what slider and tool adjustments you made.

In the Camera Raw preferences you need to decide if you want that XMP file embedded in the Raw data or if you want to leave in the default setting that makes the XMP file a sidecar.

If you have the XMP file as a sidecar and then want to move the Raw file, you have to move the XMP sidecar file too to keep the edits you made with the image.

I highly recommend you get the inexpensive (used from $0.01 + $3.99 shipping) book: Real World Camera Raw with CS2 Amazon.com: Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS2 (9780321334091): Bruce Fraser: Books

I will order that book!
I see that xmp file along too, but I'm telling you there are 4 tabs, and after I played with the photo of my neice I hit one of them, and it took the pic to photoshop, and then when I wanted to see the orignal again to play with it again- it was the one I just played with, and it had vingetting.
I was bummed...so I dont know if I'm hitting the wrong tab.
after it went to photoshop I did "save as" and made it into a jpg so that i could email it to my sister in law.
