Raynox DCR-250 and light meter help

I just got this Raynox lens for a cheap introduction to macro photography and I'm loving the results so far but I have one problem, it messes up my light meter by about 11 stops, if the meter shows it need 1.6 second shutter speed I need to make it around 1/15 of a second, I don't want to miss any great shots I can get with this lens when it comes to insects (unless they are dead and I can take my time for a proper exposure)

Not sure about the Raynox issue but how did you get 11 stops between 1/15 and 1.6s? If I'm counting correctly it's only 5.

I don't see that issue using the Raynox... the Raynox is like adding a filter on the end of your lens. Does that happen to your body, when you add a UV or clear filter? Something else is wrong....

Please post an image with Exif data intact.. so we can see what you are doing....

What light meter? Handheld, or in the camera? Used in what mode?

Agreed, the lens does not cause this issue....

The built in light meter, I'll show the exif data for one of the pictures I took and I'll take 2 more exactly the same one with what the camera wants me to do and one with proper exposure

Got a cell phone? Mount the Raynox lens on your camera and take a shot of two of it, I want to see how it is mounted.

I think my problem is the exposure comp throwing off my light meter? So I guess Pheonix would be right counting 5 stops when my exposure comp is at +5

you might want to set exposure comp to Zero as a baseline.. and try again.

Just post an image... but when you save it for posting, don't remove the exif data.... that would be much more useful

It worked, I don't know how I didn't notice my exposure comp was at +5, what's the term when it comes to stops in between the shutter speeds? Stops is only referred to through the aperture numbers right? When I said 11 stops earlier I meant that between the shutter speeds, not apertures

A stop of light is a stop of light.. for shutter, aperture or ISO.

That makes sense!
You can count the stops yourself. Each stop basically doubles (or cuts in half) the amount of light that gets in so if you double the exposure time/shutter speed (leaving the other settings alone), you add 1 stop.
1/15 = starting point
1/8 (rounding off here) - 1 stop
1/4 - 2 stops
1/2 - 3 stops
1s - 4 stops
1.6s goes here
2s - 5 stops

As you can see it's between 4 and 5 stops.
