The exposure and composition is fine. Without any context, the kites appear as indiscernible in the first two images.

When you say indiscernible, do you mean they do nothing for the image, and should be cloned out?

What are those things in the sky? I first thought they were birds, but they seem very consistently to look like some hoop thing?

They are kites.a lot of people kite Surf here during the summer and fall

Clone out the kites as they do nothing for the photo as you eyes goes to the rocks first

#1 is just ok but your horizon is cuttng the frame in half
#3 my least favorite. The people are too small and blend in with their surroundings, and again, the kite doesn't work for me

The horizon is cutting number 1 in half, but the rocks and the sun intersect on the thirds rule, doesn't that work for the image? And when you say it is just okay, what do you feel would have made it even better, to be a winner.

Maybe something like this. Really all a did was crop it to 8x10 and did a quick and dirt kite cloning (don't worry, they never felt it ).
This moves the horizon to the upper third.

I see the difference, but to be honest, I'm not really sure which I like better.
