Really not what I had planned. lol

So tonight I had my daughter modelling for me. Maybe I shouldn't have used the word model.
My plan was to have her relax, get her to sit nice. Get a few nice shots. Play with the lighting. Reality as it turns out was not listening to my plan. A basic replay follows.

Me - "Have a seat on the stool and relax."

Kylee - Sits on the stool and looks at me.

Me - "What ever you do don't smile." I wait and she gives me a few good natural smiles.

Me - "Hang on let me move back a bit."

Here's where it went off.
By the time I had moved 5' and turned around she was speed posing like Kate Moss had just done and 8 ball! What was I to do? So I started shooting. Screw the light just try and keep up.

Man, I love freckles on kids. It's my favorite thing.

I think the second one is my favorite, it feels the most natural to me. The third feels almost a bit forced? And the pose is maybe a little young for her, it seems like more of a 3-4 year old thing.

The first has really nice Rembrandt lighting, you can make out the triangle on her cheek and both eyes have the catchlight. I just wonder if it's too...I don't know, dramatic, maybe? She's so young and fun, and the lighting feels sort of old. Maybe if you didn't take the flash so far off-axis, maybe 20 degrees instead of 45. I might also try some traditional beauty-style portraits, like clamshell, where the flash is above her and reflector just under her, because I think it would really make her freckles pop.

Anyway, just random ideas. Adorable girl, I hope we can see more of her!

I like the clamshell idea. Next time I get her down there, I'll make sure to go down in advance to set the lighting up since I now know once in front of the camera she develops posing Tourettes.

#2 is the best one. Maybe you should try paying her, she might listen better then! LOL Sounds like it was a lot of fun.

Have you tried to get her into birding yet?

I agree #2 is the best of the bunch and even it has issues but I was just along for the ride. lol
I figured it would be more natural just to shoot whatever she was doing than to stop it and try and pose her. Plus it was fun to watch the ham in action.

She has come out a couple of times to shoot with us using the Canon XS and 70-200 but she not into hanging out in the cold to do it. Maybe when it's warmer I can get her to take some flower/scenic shots.
