...and some of you might choose to smack me over the back of the head, but someone highly recommended that I register my camera, because I don't think that I ever have and I need to send it in for a warranty repair...

So I went to Canon's website to register online... and it all looks EXTREMELY familiar and now I'm wondering if I *did* register it when I first got the camera

I tried looking around Canon's site for a login or ... SOMETHING, but I'm lost. Is there anywhere that I can check to see if I *did* register the camera already? :lmao:

Why do you need to 'register' it? What is the receipt for?

Huh? What receipt? I need to send my camera into Canon for a repair... and I want to make sure it's registered before I do so. That's all. And I can't remember if I did it already or not... and I want to find out if there's a way to see if I did or not.

It's very important that you register your camera so that you will be able to enter it into the ACC and it will be considered a viable candidate for stud.

If they have a stated warranty, a dated receipt is all you should need. Legally, I don't think they can require you to 'register' anything..... which IMPO is just harvesting personal info for advertising anyway.

This should solve your issue.

Perfect! All my life's issues have been instantaneously resolved!

Isn't the point of registration to prove that your were the original owner?

If you have a receipt from an authorized dealer with your name on it, I don't see why that wouldn't work just as well...

I register all my stuff with them because I know that in the event of a catastrophic loss of my home I can log on to Canon's site and find all my serial numbers. Plus if I send in something and for whatever reason it's a close call whether something is covered by warranty or not I like to think (hope) that they see all the other crap I've purchased from them and they may give me the benefit of the doubt. Probably never happen but one can hope.

I buy all my high-$$ gear at a local camera dealer. They tell me NOT to register anything.

If I have a warranty issue, I return it to them, they swap it out with a replacement and deal with the warranty w/ the manufacturer directly. This way, I'm not out anything critical for 6-8 weeks.

I believe that is correct. So is the next part btw. I have never registered anything and have never had any problem. So long as you keep your receipts...
