This thread is dedicated to none other than our very own Tyler Drumm, aka O Hey Tyler.

So I did a little digging...

Land mass? Texas > Maine
Population? Texas > Maine
Gross State Product? Texas > Maine
Avg per capita income? Texas > Maine
Avg SAT scores? Texas > Maine
Ivy League admission per capita? Texas > Maine
College graduation rate? Texas > Maine
# of National Merit Scholars? Texas > Maine
# of US Presidents? Texas > Maine
# of Fortune 500 businesses? Texas > Maine
# of Fortune 200 businesses? Texas > Maine
% of adult population serving in the Armed Forces? Texas > Maine
# of players in the 4 major professional sports? Texas > Maine

For perspective, there are more people and tax $$ base within a 10 mile radius of the chair I'm sitting in than the entire state of Maine.
More people migrate to Texas from other states than anywhere else in the country. Last year Texas enjoyed a net gain in migrants of more than 130,000 people from other states.

I'm running out of time, but I think you get the idea. ;-)

Feel free to comment as you see fit.

Allow me to retort...

Things that will bite sting you and lead to a painful death? Texas > Maine
Potential for the half the state to be engulfed in a refinery based firestorm? Texas > Maine
Tornadoes, hurricanes, sand storms, floods? Texas > Maine
Percentages of "Y'all" being used in conversation? Texas > Maine
Multi-Cultural Ignorance? Texas > Maine
Large Pickup trucks? Tie

We may be broke, but at least we haven't covered every square mile with fast food and chain retail store.!

Oh yeah you guys are the 11th fattest state while we are only the 25th.

Funny since I am now in Maine after living in Texas for 6 years.

I loved Texas...it has its perks. However, if you want to enjoy life...actual life...Maine wins.

But...if you want Taco Bell at 4 am when the titty bar shuts down....Texas ftw.

Here is a study Crime Rate by State, 2006 ? Infoplease.com

The rate per 100k inhabitants

Maine - Violent Crime: 115.5
Texas - Violent Crime: 516.3

Maine - Murder: 1.7
Texas - Murder: 5.9

Maine - Robbery: 29.1
Texas - Robbery: 158.5

90.2% of our kids get high school degrees whereas only 79.9% of yours do. Which is the worst in the country BTW.

Keep in mind, these numbers, along with the HS graduation rates, include the more than 5 million undocumented immigrants plaguing our state.

Let me save you the trouble of mentioning how many people here have no healthcare. You can also thank undocumented immigrants for that. Now, I'm certainly not saying that all of those people are evil or lazy (I have several friends who are undocumented), but they definitely skew the data.

It's called data. I understand if you have a problem with complex problems like immigration. :sexywink:

We have immigrants just like other states but we tend not shoot ours.
