A friend in Venice Beach

A few [unsolicited] thoughts. In the first the blown background is really hurting this one; the human eye is naturally pulled toward bright over dark. The colours and shadow are also imparting an unnatural colour cast on her. A bit of fill flash would have cleared all of this up. When you're posing people, ESPECIALLY bare-shouldered people against walls, etc, DO NOT let them lean against the wall. The should just barely touch it (yes, it's uncomfortable for the model; so what?) that will alleviate the "square" left arm she's developed. Also, watch the crop; you've nipped off her fingers.

In the second, the lighting is nice (though a little more light in her eyes wouldn't have hurt, but her position in the frame and the cropped elbows hurt the image. Generally speaking have the subect looking "into" vice "out of" the frame.

The best of the three in terms of exposure, but again, you have a bright background which pulls the eye away. Given how tightly you've cropped the two images above, WHY did you choose to leave most of that tradesman's van in the frame of this image? Moving just a bit to your left would have given you a MUCH better background!

cant give tech feedback like tirediron but i like your friends expressions in all three, #3 is best (like the selfie in the glasses) agree on cropping the van and a little more square to the wall (if poss) would have meant all art behind your friend as opposed to the white frame & light, She looks real relaxed in all 3 esp #1, quite a cool facial expression in 1, does your friend like these? Had not even thought about the arm being flat/square but now its been pointed out that's a good point.

I feel like you were shooting a little high up as well. try to get a little lower and try getting rid of the dead space above her head. Im on my work computer so this may be way off but the images are very blue.

Quite like the second, but it needs her elbows in?

John did a good job with the c&c on these. However, I like the posing of the second one best, sure the elbows could be included (cropping) but I like it. You have her slightly turned from the camera and her eyes are drawing you in.

On the 3rd one, I don't like how she is square to the camera, not flattering for ladies. And I don't like seeing the arm pits. These two things combine for me to be an unflattering look for her.

these types of walls as a backgroung are best shot straight in my experience. It is in itself an extremely busy background and adding angles and pieces of street etc adds to the distraction to the point where the main subject is almost lost in the frame.
