Recommend a good lens please!

Ok, I have a Nikon D60 and the 2 lenses that I have should be in my signature. I am about to buy a new lens and would LOVE to get some feedback from some of you. I have about $600 to spend.

Budget is good, but what do you want to do with this new lens? What sort of photography?

Portrait lens

I also will be upgrading to the d700 within the year, so I need something that will go on both cameras.

Used 85mm 1.8

^ That 85mm would be a GREAT lens for d700's full frame sensor.

Also, consider a Sigma 50mm 1.4. A good copy of one of those is better at f/1.4 than the Canon 50 1.4 when wide open - not sure about a Nikon comparison.
