Recommend a Photo Printer?

Hi Folks,

My trusty Epson R310 Photo Stylus printer tipped me over the edge yesterday - I really truly do not like it when I go to print a black & white text document, only for the printer to not print the article, because it is out of YELLOW ink, even though it has black ink (ie, doesnt use colour to generate black). I also suspect more ink was used in cleaning clogged print heads than what was actually put down on paper.

I would be using this printer just for my own use - ie not commercially & not for selling. I see the points below as essential.

• Full Support of Apple OSX by Manufacturer
• A4 Printing essential, A3 would by nice
• Pigment based ink
• Separate ink cartridges for colour
• Doesn't suffer from the problem mentioned above
• Multi-purpose - ie not dedicated to photos
• Not Multi-function - do not need copier, scanner etc.

Price is not particularly an issue here, though I am not the sort to go and put $2000 on a printer

I like my canon MX860... got it from the apple store, has separate inks and can print black and white without needing color. It has 5 cartridges in it, cyan, magenta, yellow, black and a bigger black for just black and white printing.

BUT it is a copier, scanner and fax as well...
