Recommendations for best wide angle lens...Please

1 seems like some dont understand what prime is

2. You dont know about lens? but you are a photographer and want to run a company? Im confused!

3.Nah 2 is enough for now

I highly recommend a 14mm f/2.8 fixed lens - preferably Nikon or Canon, or if choosing a 3rd party lens - Tamron.

KEH is the best place to find great deals on used lenses - they've got a couple of wonderful 14mm lenses in right now - you should check them out!

It's the nature of the internet for folks to make deriding comments instead of helpful ones.. but I think the feeling is that for a self-described "newbie", practice and research will get you much farther at this point than more gear.

I would suggest going out and taking a bunch of group shots, get your friends together and have them pose for you. Try your existing lenses at various focal lengths, and various distances to your subject, and see what you end up with. If you don't have to room to take a shot as is, then set it up somewhere where you will have room. Take a shot at 18mm, back up a bunch, and take it again at 55. See what it does to your perspective and figure out what you like and what you don't. Once you've got an idea of where exactly you're falling short you'll be in a better place to decide if additional gear is the solution.

I want a lens that will be able to accommodate at least ten people standing side by side with a working distance of a few feet if possible.
May I suggest that what I have bolded in red will make a very static and boring photo if it is one line of people. It would be a much more dynamic photo to have them come together in two or three lines with their heads filling in the gaps in a pyramid form. You may also want to consider a short step ladder to elevate yourself slightly if it is a large group.

For the group posing, have a look at this video at around mark 20:30.
