Just received my refurbished D5000, it looks good cosmetically and it seems to be working fine. I'm pretty new to this stuff, and was wondering if I should be concerned with it having a shutter count of 3140?

It should be fine, 3140 is still very very low. D5000 shutter life is about 100K. You're barely at 3%. Have fun shooting!

3000 is pretty low, these camera's are made to last to at least 100 000 shots, so I wouldn't worry about it.

From NikonUSA.com:

Durable, high precision shutter
Testing to over 100,000 cycles assures precision and long shutter life.

There are reasons refurbs cost less. Many of them are essentially used equipment.

Didn't you just return a new D5000, to save a couple bucks by getting a refurb?

Yup (enough for me to get another lense), I haven't sent it back yet but that is the plan. I see your point, call it apprehensiveness, but I had just read a lot of people getting them with <500 and it just got me thinking (hate when I do that...).

Thanks for the quick replies! After taking about 100 shots today....I have a lot to learn, should be fun!
