regarding Blurring the Background of a subject. Really Blurring it.

Is there something specific I have to do? To give you an Idea. I'd like the background to be this blurry or even more if possible. In a month I'll buy my first dslr and I'd like to try something out. So I decided to ask ahead of time to be prepared to put it in practice once I get the camera.

Focal length, aperture, and background distance all contribute to that blur background.

That degree of background blur on a small subject like that is **easily** achieved with something like a 90mm or 100 or 105mm macro lens. Braineack's comment above about shooting at 1,000mm is not a serious reply. The area shown is a little larger than a playing card, so the distance is very close, and the background is relatively speaking "far away", so depth of field will be very shallow, and the degree of background defocus will be very high.
