Removing or leaving the battery in Panasonic FZ28

I am curious why the FZ28 manual says to remove the battery from the camera after use? Also, what exactly does 'after use' mean? At the end of the day?, or if you plan to turn the camera off for just a couple of hours?

Is this simply intended to get more hours from the battery bfore recharging or is there possible damage to or deterioration of the battery or the camera if the battery is left in for long periods (as I have always done with my cheap Fuji P & S.)
