Renting & cleaning the studio - what's normal & what's not??

Don't let him take any more of your pictures. It would help if you didn't use his gear (you said you used his camera), then if he asks you to download the images to his computer you can say "No" without him claiming them from his own camera.

Maybe he's trying to do some obscure Mr. Miyagi mentoring crap with you? :

"You mop floor. It teach you patience with camera and train muscle for better holding technique."

Still wouldn't let him download your photos without an explanation.

I seriously hope that just because you used his camera, he doesn't think the images produced with it are some how rightfully his. That's just messed up. If I borrow a paint brush and produce a masterpiece on canvas with it, the owner of the brush can't claim the work to be his.

No, but the canvas manufacturer, as well the the makers of the paint, can.

Read a thread earlier about the camera saving the copyright info to the photo files. Might want to make sure he doesn't have something like that setup.

Is there any way to have an external flash disc protected & doesn't allow files to be copied from it? The guy asked me previously to bring my digital portfolio so he can check & give me some feedback on the photos & retouching. He's a pro photographer so I thought okay I'd appreciate some feedback. He asked for full res files, and i don't want him to steal those from me..

The good news is this is a good learning experience but there's all kinds of fail from the U.S. viewpoint but since you're in Europe, things may be diferent. However, first fail was renting a studio for a month before taking the studio for a test run. If you had rented for a one time shoot, you can move on, lesson learned. But now you're going to have to be submissive to his ways or stand up and tell him something fishy is going on. Secondly, why did you borrow his camera? You can use your own and rent his triggers or invest in your own. If this was only your second time in a studio, the last thing you should worry about is shooting with a pro camera. Learn how to use the studio with the equipment you have. Lastly, if you're renting for a month, there could be an expectation of doing more cleaning than a one time renter.

I'm not trying to beat you up. Just trying to get more info. There's a whole back story to this that we didn't get. I use StudioShare pretty often when I travel. Clean-up and closing procedures are something I discuss prior to renting.

I didn't borrow his camera, he kind of just..handed it to me. I came to the studio, he asked what type of lighting i wanted, so he set everything up for me. I wanted to do that myself and experiment the whole thing like I usually do, but he was quick on his feet and before I was finished telling the model what my idea was, he already had the whole thing set up. Then he said come check the light if that's what you had in mind and he just handed me his camera. I tried a few shots with the model and said ok that's fine, & completely forgot that i was using his camera. Then after a short while I realized it and took my camera instead. he never gave me the shots from his camera. After we finished he I helped him disassemble the lights & put them back on the shelves. Then I had to mop to floor, and the model asked if she could see the pictures. I said sure, and he said she can view them on his computer screen it's bigger. So all good, although I was quite worried cuz i couldn't see what he was doing with my pictures while i was mopping the floor. Then we went home and I got his email, with 1 of my photos, in full res, already edited, with his comment: "this is how it should look like". He's really friendly when we talk, so I didn't want to believe there was anything dodgy.. And besides, I didn't want to piss of the one that gave me a good renting deal. So i shut up and told myself be more careful nxt time.

Then i sent him the 1 month rent (which is quite cheap since I told him i'm a student, and which gives me the right to use the studio whenever I wanted within 1 month - of course, given its availability). Then I told him i'll come over to use the studio this Sunday again, he said sure no problem, and then made a joke of me learning how to mop the floor this time. I thought it was quite rude, I asked him why he didn't ask all his clients to wear slippers instead? He said "oh then they would just "love" me wouldn't they". I asked if they were too cool for slippers & preferred mopping? he said he'd tell me on Sunday "over a cup of tea". - so I'm curious what he's gonna say.

I know i know, call me silly, I myself even know that i was very silly to ignore all the dodgy signs, but when you're not used to see the bad in people, it takes time to unlearn that...

Are you female, he maybe flerting

yeah or he likes the makeup artist and model

Tell a little white lie until you're out of there...tell the guy your model was uncomfortable with him there watching. And then before he comes back, if he asks for the pics, tell him the memory card and all your equipment is already put away in your car or wherever.

Why? Why not simply talk to the person and get it sorted out?
