Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Hello all,

So glad I could join you all on this forum. I have a photo that I would like to resize to around 1600x2000 wide and length with a resolution of around 300 as well. The original width and length is 299x400 with a dpi of 96. How do I go about resizing it without compromising quality of the photo? Is there any tips and tricks I can use? I use Adobe Photoshop Elements to edit photos. And I have tried resizing the photo to 1600x2000 but the quality didn't look so good. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I sure don't know, but welcome anyway.

DPI has to do with printing, not the number of pixels in the image. You can set the DPI to 300 for ANY image without resizing.

Welcome to the forum! Alas, what you ask for cannot be done -- you cannot resize "up" without losing image quality. The below should help to understand. Lee

"When Photoshop makes an image larger, it has to add pixels that were not there before, and since Photoshop wasn’t on the scene when you took the photo, it has no idea what a larger, more detailed version of the image should actually look like, which means it has to guess. Of course, Photoshop is a very powerful program and its guesses are based on some very complicated and advanced math, but at the end of the day, it’s still just a guess, and it’s not going to guess correctly. Bottom line, the larger you try to make your image, the worse your image is going to look. Instead of the sharp, highly detailed version you were hoping for, you’ll get something that looks dull, soft and blurry.

So again, when resizing your image, it’s okay to make your images smaller, but you should avoid making them larger at all cost unless you absolutely don’t care about image quality."

There is software that can increase the pixel numbers better than just 'resizing' an image.

Hello again,

What software do you recommend? I also thought about downsizing the photo to preserve quality and then some how resizing again to 8x10 to print. Is there any software that also downsizes? Thank you for all your help

Just about ANY editing software should be able to resize images. It's such a basic function, like people breathing.

OnOne software called "Perfect Resize" (Standalone or Photoshop plugin)
However you are asking a lot of resizing software:
* you don't have many pixels to start with
* going from 96ppi to 300ppi means it has to increase pixel count nine times (3 x 3) ... approx
* you then want to increas size 5 times in both directions = 25 times
So you are looking at software that will add 225 times the pixels that currently exist

Good luck, but don't expect a perfect result
