That being said, I'm not sure if a B&W conversion was the right way to go with this one.

I definitely like it in B&W. The clouds have a really great look to them which adds to the mood. I think that B&W suits the mood and color would give it a conflicting optimistic vibe. Just my opinion.

Thank you everybody. I think the reason B&W was not fully working for me is that my conversion was not up to par this time. Someone from another forum took a stab at re-processing it and came up with this:

Now THAT's a photo that I'm happy with. In comparison, my processing looks muddy and boring.

My feeling is that, if ever a picture would benefit from a tilted horizon, this one would.

Three reasons
Every line is skewed and a tilted horizon would just emphasize that.
The top half is pretty much the same old heavily pped clouds; a tilt would throw some of the content up there.
the fence post in the lower right is a strong design element and would benefit from being further from the edge and more solidly planted in the picture.

The tilt gives this picture somewhat of that Alice in Wonderland type of surrealism to it. I like both re-edits a lot, but I think this one is the direction I like the best FWIW.
