Rookie looking for arty camera

I'm pretty sure the sensors are the same.

Not that I know of. The D5200 got this new Toshiba sensor thats actually better than the old D5100 sensor in really every respect, not just Megapixels. The D3x00 however always get the cheapest sensors, while the D5x00 line often get the same as the D7x00 line. For example, these DxOMark ratings show a substantial difference (though its not as drastic as with the old D3100 which only got a 12 Bit sensor, instead of 14 Bit):

I find the DxOMark ISO rating of the D3200 surprisingly high, because every other test I read about it indicated that the high ISO performance of the D3200 is pretty poor.

They produce very very very slightly different results in test conditions, presumably because the surrounding electronics is a bit different, but the differences are trivial.

The differences are small, thats true. The main reason why I prefer the D5x00 line is because it gets a flipscreen. I find this uber useful and dont get why this feature isnt more popular.

No one would ever go into an art store and ask for brushes, paints and canvas that would allow him/her to make ' original nice pics.... a little bit dreamy instead of crisp and super sharp.'

Any decent slr body and lens is capable of anything but it's the person using the camera who makes that happen. There is a long steep learning curve before you, or anyone, can control the camera and, just like painting, the results depends on the talent and creativity of the user.

I know artists and they are VERY careful about their choice of brush etc.

The 5100 and 5200 of course have completely different sensors. The 5200, 5300, and 3200 seem to have, if not the same sensors, very very very similar ones.

I'm confused. My dict tells me "arty" is supposed to be a derogative term ... ?

I dont like the D3200 too much. The D5200/D5300 has a much better sensor, heck even the D5100 has one I would prefer. Also, they have this wonderful flipscreen; I wished those would be more popular. Plus, the D5300 has WiFi now, if you want it (some people seem to be uber excited about that).

I second the Lightroom suggestion, though. At least on the long term.

Those Canon cameras are probably also good, I just dont care too much about them, simply because I dont have Canon glass.

Arty in my mind is an abbreviation for artillery
