Salt and Pepper

After 3 days of trying to get this shot I've decided to give up, the best I've got so far is this:

There's still a lot of detail missing from each but it was the closest I could get to exposing them both poperly. Thanks a lot for all your help guys, I might not have got the shot I wanted but i've learned a lot about lighting and exposure on the way so it's been very productive

I think it would probably help to get a real macro lens as well as the depth of field is too small to get the detail I want in the grain of salt, time to start saving!
