The example I used was perfect for Tone Mapping as the sun was low causing nice shadows. The example from the OP looks like the lighting was overhead. Still worth the processing but wont pop as much.Thanks for the tip. I think the footprints would really pop with tone mapping.
My friend has a whole collection of sand pics (we lived in Qatar, lots of sand!)
Sand always lends itself to Tone Mapping to bring out the details.
