Sandhill Crane and her eggs

[Hunter58]

I spotted this Sandhill Crane sitting on a nest yesterday while driving. Went back today with my camera. She was sitting when I got there and was just about to leave after a couple of shots when she stood up and made a few adjustments before settling back down to keep the eggs warm.

Very nice. .... learned something as well. I had thought they all went north to breed and nest.

Hmm, that looks very close to the side of the road.

Excellent! I thought the same as Didereaux.

Great shooting, enjoyed seeing these. Ed

Hunter, very nice documentary sequence . I have never seen them on a nest, but I did see a pair with chicks at Viera last year.

This is a great find as you can probably get good pictures of the chick as they grow and fledge.

I saw several pair both at Circle B and Viera but I am pretty sure they hadn't laid anything yet. Would have loved to get this set. Our Blue Herons are just beginning to get into the swing of the mating season so at least we should have some variety soon.
