Score!! Tripod

Hello all,

N00b here, and just started this wonderful hobby. I realized my cheap tripod just wasn't cutting it, so started looking at better ones. However, I just bought my D5100 kit, and would like to get a couple of lenses, flash, etc... so I put the tripod on the backburner so the "House Commander" doesn't get on my case too much for spending so much on a new hobby.

Well, my neighbor came over, and said his friend is a professional photographer, and he may have one I can buy from him.

One phone call and a couple of beers later, and he gave me a Manfrotto tripod with 128LP head. He wanted to just give it to me, but I insisted on paying him something for it, so we settled on $50. He also wants to take me out on a weekend and give me some free lessons. He said he loves introducing people to photography and enjoys passing on his knowledge to others.

After reading the threads on tripods, and all the people who said better to save for a nice one versus getting buy with a cheap one, you are all right. I can't believe now sturdy this thing is. I just love the range of motion, and especially how you can get down low also. What a great tripod.

Another convert. I've never found a good way to tell someone the difference between a cheap tripod and a good one. I can warn people all day long and they will still go out and get the cheap stuff. Once they have felt the difference they understand and will never go back.

Yeah, definitely worth the added monies to get a real one, I would have not believed it until I've seen this one. Seeing is believing I guess. I've read so many posts on these, and how everyone says to just spend it now since you'll just wind up spending it later. Couldn't agree more...hopefully another beginner researching this for their own decision will see this thread.
