Scratched Lens

How would this scratch/dust effect pictures? Basically what is the most you pay for this?

How will it affect pictures? Not at all, most likely.

Will it affect the price you can get for it? Yes. People don't like buying damaged stuff, even if the damage is only cosmetic. You will take a hit for that if you sell it, how much - I'm not really sure.

Ah. What are they asking? I'm not really familiar with what that lens should sell for, but I would try to talk them down by pointing out the scratch.

Well it's bidding and I just wanted to get an idea of max. I'm trying to find a fast lens but cheap and I'm not quite ready to buy the real expensive ones just yet!

That looks a bit more severe than a scratch, but it is still pretty small. It seems the seller is honest enough to have taken a decent photo of it.

A scratch/gouge will tend to cause some lens flare when bright light sources are in or near the image frame.

Lenses, particularly zoom lenses have to 'breath' so most of them have some amount of dust inside them.

How much the lens might be worth depends on the condition of the entire lens, if it comes with the lens hood, the original packaging, and not just the condition of the front lens element.

The condition of the rear lens element is also critical.
